3:50 PM - 4:50 PM    Chess by CT Kids Play Chess, Inc. - Chess - Spring
Chess is the fun game of thinking. It has been proven to develop memory, concentration, focus, logical thinking and the ability to calculate. The first class will be a review of the basics. Subsequent classes will offer some simple rules the student can use to select a move throughout the game. Sessions will involve a combination of learning and supervised playing.  The last class will consist of a tournament with prizes. All participants must know how the pieces move and the basic rules of chess. Connecticut Kids Play Chess, Inc. (CKPCI) one of the largest chess teaching organizations in Connecticut, will once again run the program. Glenn Budzinski, the owner of CKPCI, a life-long chess teacher, Expert-rated player and certified chess tournament director, will teach the class. This is a 6-week session. Dismissal at 3:45pm - Meet instructor at stairwell in foyer, to take attendance.Pick-Up Location at 4:50pm - Front silo doorsSpring Session: Spicing Things Up!Hands-on cooking classes for kids. Our chefs-in-training will learn how the addition of spices and herbs (not hot spicy) can transform food and provide added nutritional benefits too. Each class will highlight an herb or spice including basil, rosemary, garlic, vanilla, and cinnamon! We will make Black Bean Sliders, Rosemary Crackers, Enchiladas, and more! Our little chefs will build on their knowledge of cooking safety and the fundamental cooking techniques including peeling, breading, blending, melting, slicing, dicing, chopping and more. Spring - NASA! - Take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond! Explore planets, moons and other space phenomena in our solar system. Discover the difficulties of space travel, the challenges of living in space and try assembling a satellite while training to be an astronaut. Build your own Mad Science rocket and be a part of a launch while we investigate the four forces of flight. Every student receives a lab coat, goggles, and specially designed NASA Take Homes to help extend learning at home!Spring Session: Thurs, 4/25-5/30This is a 6-week session. Any make-ups will be added to the end of the session.Time: 3:50pm-4:50pmGrades: 2-5Location: SSES CafeteriaFee: $183/per session
