Let's have some fall fun! We would like residents, businesses, schools, town offices, really everyone to create some amazing scarecrows! The scarecrows will be posted on the split-rail fencing at Morehouse Field. This way they can be on display for our Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 30th! 

Get your fall creative juices flowing! Let's get Morehouse ready for HALLOWEEN!

Please read all information below, it is IMPORTANT. Unfortunately, any scarecrow that does not adhere to the requirements will be taken down. 

1) You MUST REGISTER on our website at www.eastonrec.com.
2) Once you have finished making and attaching your scarecrow to the Morehouse fencing, please email us a picture to eastonpr@eastonct.gov with your name and your disposal preference, see below. Once up, all scarecrows will be assigned a number for judging.

1. Official Contest Rules & Guidelines.

Registration Requirement: All entries must register by October 16, 2026.
Scarecrows can start being put up on Friday, October 16th and must be up and emailed by Wednesday, October 28th. The area will be marked.
Dimensions & Boundaries: Scarecrows must fit within a 4-foot-wide section of the fence. They cannot extend more than 2-feet outward, and must sit 6-inches above the grass line to allow for line trimming/weed whacking.
Attachment Rules: Entries must be secured to the fence using heavy-duty zip ties, bungee cords, or twine. It may have to withstand rain and wind. Screws, nails, and wire that could damage the fence or injure someone are strictly prohibited.
Material Constraints: Please use old clothing and hay, things that are easily disposed of.  No perishable food, real pumpkins, or glass elements may be used.
Contest Policy: Displays must be family-friendly. No political themes, excessive gore, or offensive content will be permitted.

2. Post-Event Cleanup & Disposal
The Opt-In Disposal: On your registration, please answer whether you want your scarecrow back or not. We will begin removing and discarding them as of Wednesday, November 4th.
• The "Take-Home" Window: We will give all participants through Monday, November 2nd to take their scarecrows. 

3. Judging Categories & Prizes: Judging will take place on Thursday, October 29th and be announced on our FACEBOOK page and at the Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 30th.
The "Town Spirit" Award: Best representation of the small town's history, local business, or school mascot.
Best Traditional: The quintessential, classic, straw-stuffed scarecrow.
Spookiest (but family-friendly): Best Halloween-themed or creepy (but not too scary).
Prizes: Gift cards for our winners and a photo on our Facebook page.
