We would like residents, businesses, schools, town offices, really everyone to create some amazing scarecrows! The scarecrows will be posted on the split-rail fencing at Morehouse Field. This way they can be on display for our Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 30th! Get your fall creativity going! Let's get Morehouse ready for HALLOWEEN!FIRST 10 REGISTERED GET A FREE HAY BALE FOR YOUR SCARECROW!!!(We will notify you via email if you receive a hay bale)Please read all information below, it is IMPORTANT. Unfortunately, any scarecrow that does not adhere to the requirements will be taken down. 1) You MUST REGISTER on our website at www.eastonrec.com. 2) Once you have finished making and attaching your scarecrow to the Morehouse fencing, please email us a picture to eastonpr@eastonct.gov with your name and your disposal preference, see below. Once up, all scarecrows will be assigned a number for judging.If you have any questions, please contact our office. 1. Official Contest Rules & Guidelines.• Registration Requirement: All entries must register by October 16, 2026. Scarecrows can start being put up on Friday, October 16th and must be up and emailed by Wednesday, October 28th. The area will be marked.• Dimensions & Boundaries: Scarecrows must fit within a 4-foot-wide section of the fence. They cannot extend more than 2-feet outward, and must sit 6-inches above the grass line to allow for line trimming/weed whacking.• Attachment Rules: Entries must be secured to the fence using heavy-duty zip ties, bungee cords, or twine. 3:50 PM - 4:50 PM	Chess by CT Kids Play Chess, Inc. - Chess - Fall Chess is the fun game of thinking. It has been proven to develop memory, concentration, focus, logical thinking and the ability to calculate. The first class will be a review of the basics. Subsequent classes will offer some simple rules the student can use to select a move throughout the game. Sessions will involve a combination of learning and supervised playing.  The last class will consist of a tournament with prizes. All participants must know how the pieces move and the basic rules of chess. Connecticut Kids Play Chess, Inc. (CKPCI) one of the largest chess teaching organizations in Connecticut, will once again run the program. Students will have the option to learn crochet and/or needlepoint during these 6 weeks. This class will guide you through the essential techniques, including how to hold your yarn and make a variety of stitches. By the end of the session, you’ll have completed the basics of crochet and needlepoint to make your own projects. TO BRING:If your student chooses crochet after the first class, a link for a crochet hook and a skein of yarn will be provided.
