Youth indoor tennis lessons at Samuel Staples Elementary School late fall and winter. Classes will focus on teaching basic strokes along with playing lots of games.  This is for beginners/advanced beginners. Chess is the fun game of thinking. It has been proven to develop memory, concentration, focus, logical thinking and the ability to calculate. The first class will be a review of the basics. Subsequent classes will offer some simple rules the student can use to select a move throughout the game. Sessions will involve a combination of learning and supervised playing.  The last class will consist of a tournament with prizes. All participants must know how the pieces move and the basic rules of chess. Connecticut Kids Play Chess, Inc. (CKPCI) one of the largest chess teaching organizations in Connecticut, will once again run the program. Glenn Budzinski, the owner of CKPCI, a life-long chess teacher, Expert-rated player and certified chess tournament director, will teach the class. This is a 6-week session. MANDALORIAN TRAINING USING LEGO® WITH PLAY-WELL - Here’s our chance to join our friends and learn what it takes to become a true Mandalorian. Using LEGO®, an experienced instructor will guide us through the skills and equipment needed to earn the title. We will build our gauntlet fighter ship to weave through the galaxy, our Z-6 jet packs to maneuver through the air, and of course defend ourselves with our Mandalorian armor. This class aims to introduce Chinese culture and Mandarin to students between 2nd and 5th grades. Students will engage in fun activities to experience Chinese traditions, play Chinese games, as well as learn to sing, speak, and write in Chinese. The class is taught in both English and Chinese. No prior experience in the Chinese language is required. Instructor Han Yan is a professor at Fairfield University and an Easton resident. After teaching her two children Chinese at home, she decided to bring her Chinese class to all families in the Easton Community.Registration for spring opens on 2/17Spring Dates: Thursdays, 3:50-4:50pm, 4/27-6/1, 6-weeks. Master James King of King Academy of Martial Arts & Self-defense (KAMAS Karate) will train students in the discipline of Tang Soo Do. As such, students in this program are guided and challenged in the basic principles of the art to introduce the underlining principles of conduct of Tang Soo Do (honesty, courtesy, integrity, self-control, perseverance, and indomitable spirit). Emphasis is placed on enhancing each student’s physical, mental, and social development to influence the positive life skills and characteristics of discipline and self-confidence. The techniques taught inclusive of all kicks, strikes, blocks, stances, forms, sparring, and self-defense are aligned to the traditional teachings of Tang Soo Do as sanction by the ATA. Students will have the opportunity to achieve belts and will test for belt advancement throughout the program.
